Key Areas Associated With Community College Finances Essay
Abstract This paper will provide a brief overview of some of the key areas associated with community college finances. As a public institution, the community college depends upon securing financial revenue from a variety of sources (Kenton, Schuh, Huba, Shelley, 2004). Those sources include, but are not limited to: state and local appropriations, tuition generation, gifts and grants, auxiliary services, continuing education, and workforce development. Affordable tuition and adequate state funding are essential due to the increasing number of future jobs which will require some form of postsecondary education (Katsinas, Dââ¬â¢Amico, Friedel, 2014). If community colleges are to maintain or exceed their current level of performance and accommodate student access, they need to generate alternative sources of funding (Friedel Thomas, 2013). Gifts and grants, auxiliary services, continuing education, and workforce development are all excellent examples of alternative sources of funding for co mmunity colleges.
